Attendance

Punctuality

Our school gate opens at 8.35am which allows parents 10 minutes to escort their child to their classroom and to have left our school site before 8.50am when our registers are taken and our school gate is closed.

Any child arriving after 8.50am needs to be signed in by their adult at our main school entrance. The adult will need to record the reason for their child's lateness. Any child arriving in school between 8.51am and 9.05am will be marked as being 'late' on the school attendance register.

Absence due to illness

Parents should contact our school office before 9.05am on their child's first, (and any subsequent) days of illness. This can be by email (admin@st-andrews.coventry.sch.uk) or by telephone (024 76 466309). A message can also be left on our school answer phone. Parents should inform us of the exact nature of their child's illness and the anticipated date of their return to school.

Absence to attend a medical or dental appointment

Parents should arrange for all routine medical and dental appointments to take place outside of the school day, whenever it is possible to do so. If this cannot be arranged, then you will be required to complete, (in advance) a 'Request to authorise absence from school due to medical or dental appointment' form, in order for the headteacher to authorise this term-time leave of absence. The length of time your child should be out of school to attend the appointment should be as short as possible.

Requests for term-time absence

Any other requests for term-time absence should be made in advance using the 'Request to authorise term-time absence' form.

The DfE does not consider the need or desire for a holiday or leave of absence for the purpose of leisure or recreation to be exceptional circumstances for which term-time absence  should be authorised.

All  absences associated with a family holiday (without exceptional circumstances) during term-time will be marked as unauthorised on the register. Any parents known to have removed their child from school for the sole purpose of a holiday may be referred to the Local Authority by the headteacher and be issued with a fixed penalty notice.
